All dogs pick up worms at one time or another just because they live and sniff and eat in the dirt. If you give your dog a monthly heartworm preventative like Heartguard there is a strongid type wormer in it. You should worm dogs monthly. It is a good idea to worm at least once or twice a year for tapeworms too. If you keep a good flea preventative on the dog, it will help prevent them, but dogs still have a possibility of picking up a flea here or there that would give them tapeworms.
