DOG WORMS

Dog worms are parasites that can cause many health problems in your animal.  This is especially true if you have a dog that is in a weakened state physically, as the worms will take a toll on the dog’s immune system.  Pet owners should know that there are many types of dog worms that can have an effect on your dog.  It is also important to note that the symptoms will be different for each dog, as dogs react differently when they are under physical stress.

Unfortunately, there are many pet that belief that their dogs are born with worms, and that somehow the dog’s mother passes on the worms to our offspring.  This is not always the case, as it is very important for the pet owner to understand that even if their dog is not born with these worms, they can still come in fact it with them by enough foods that have been in fact it would parasites.  There is also some research that indicates that dogs have contracted worms by eating uncooked foods or certain meats and fish that have not reached a quick cooking temperature to kill any parasites.  It is also important to remember that dogs are scavengers, and that dogs will eat almost anything, which might include other dead animals that have become infected with worms.  Additional research has also indicated that mosquitoes can spread worms by passing it on form one dog to the other.

There are different types of dog worms.  Some of the more familiar types of worms in dogs are tapeworms, roundworms, and hot worms.  There are some other forms of worms such as hookworms and with worms, which can really have a destructive effect on that dog’s intestinal tract.  Symptoms vary from dog to dog but some of the more common signs of worms in dogs can be your dogs losing his appetite, he misses bowel movements at times, and it becomes weak and lethargic and seems to sleep a lot.  Other common symptoms that have been reported by specialists are bad breath and his for looking doll.

Every pet owner should understand that it is important to detect these worms early mainly because there are different treatment methods depending on which particular parasite your dog has become infected with.  Extreme caution should be taken if the dog has become infected with roundworms and/or hookworms, as these particular worms can be easily transmitted to humans as well.  Dog worms can go undetectable at times, as there are few dogs who won’t show any symptoms.  In other cases some of the symptoms the dogs might show as a result of being infected with dog worms can be severe.  Excessive vomiting and in addition would diarrhea can make a dog dehydrate and be more susceptible to other airborne illnesses.

The standard treatment for dog worms will vary.  Research has now shown, that many dog owners try to look for a natural approach, using such home remedies as colic and other herbs that might kill off the worms.  Regardless of the methods used, it is always a good practice to seek professional medical attention from a veterinarian, who are well versed in curing such ailments as dog worms.
