Pets get routine checkups for worms. If they have worms, they normally recieve treatment almost immediently. Humans can get worms, just as pets can. In fact millions of people around the world are infested with worms (including people in the U.S) humans normally never recieve any form of testing and/or treatment for worms unless they specifically request it. The only difference here is that animals get treatment for worms, and humans don’t. Why is this? I’ve been thinking about it for weeks and still haven’t come up with a good reason.

I need to go buy some Frontline Plus or an other flea control system. We had a outbreak from disturbing dirt. Being cold I did not give them there Frontline.
I am wondering if there is something new or better on the market. I think the fleas are getting over the Frontline. It worked for years but now seems to be puttering out.
Of course the dogs and cats got worms from the fleas. I seen a worm on a kitty tush. (Yuk) I am guessing the others have them also.
So what is the best broad spec dewormer at the vets?
I am heading to the vet tomorrow. So thanks for the heads up on what to buy.

my dog was diagnosed with heartworms and i have heard that if you put your dog on heartguard while he has worms it will prevent more from being born. if you do it for the lifespan of the worms it will get rid of the infestation. Is this true?? thanks in advance.

My Siberian Husky was tested positive for Heartworms on Thursday. I will be taking him in for his first injections of Immiticide on Tuesday. I’m planning on caging my Husky, but know that I’m going to have to take him outside so he can releave himself. Is there any type harnesses that can restrict his running and jumping. If so has anyone used one of these harness for post heartworm treatment. Would you suggest getting one, if so which one. What should I expect after his treatment? The Vet said that she didn’t think he had very many worms. She classified it as low to moderate infestation. My husky is 7 years old and is quite playful at times. The questions that follow are more bases on the average experience not necessarily my dog. Is he just going to lay around for a while. Is he going to be sick for two monthes straight or is he going to recover his energy level fairly quickly. Am I going to have problems keeping him calm for two months. Any advice or insight on this situation would be extremely appreciated. Further more, any advice or insight on this situation reguarding my dog’s breed, Siberian Husky, would be more than extremely appreciated.

I can not afford to do it. I got the dog from someone who did not take care of her and her first vet check showed that she had the heart worms. I feel different about the treatment of heartworms than most and that is the fact that i have 2 chihuahua’s that are the best of freinds and keeping one from the other for any period of time would be utter torture for all of us. They both need my attention all the time when i am at home. They sleep with us at night and i have a problem with the fact that they will not be able to play for a period of time. I am affaid thatthe time apart would be to much. The female that we are talking about is Abby nd she has behavior problems already and i am afraid the treatment wold be too much on all of us. Please give your input. I am not a bad person so when i say this do not have a fit. I want her qualitity of life to be good but i can not afford to do the treatment which where i am in La. the vet said it would cost $250.00. I need to spay them. I can not

That is the link to the question. Just to update you guys as you asked me to. The surgery is real. They only do it when they know the owner is going to take care of the dog because it is very dangerous and then the dog has to go thru the treatment. They go in through the neck and remove all the heart worms they can get to from the blocked artery without getting too close to the heart. This gives the dog a chance to recover enough to withstand the treatment and it is only done in dire circumstances. Any vet can do it, but few opt to. My dog is fine so far. Did well and is already acting a lot better though not jumping through hoops. Vet says in a month he will probably be able to start the treatment, maybe a month and a half. I am just happy the dog made it and seems to be recovering. Vet said many times they do not do the surgery because the person with the dog will stop there as the dog does tend to make a full recovery. But if not treated, the same thing will happen again… and MY DOG NOW!!! LOL. I think I understand the treatment. Anyone have suggestions for what is called the quiet period? And I know that is down the road. He is doing well now and all keep him in prayers that he will keep doing well and survive the terrible treatment he will have to suffer through. I just know he will. This vet is great nad a good man. Thanks to all who answered last night.

After having my dog for 1 week I took him to the vet and he tested positive for heart-worm. The previous owner claims to have given him preventative but he still somehow got heart-worm. Anyway, the vet gave me the preventative pills (heart-guard) to give to my dog for 4 months to kill off the babies. I went in today for the blood draw to make sure my dog can handle the treatment. I was there for 45 minutes and 4 different techs attempted to draw blood and none were successful. Needless to say, my english bulldog was not happy with this as he was probably stuck about 15 times. I understand he has tough skin and that his wrinkles make it difficult. They apologized and told me this has never happened and were embarrassed. They want me to bring him back on Thursday and they are going to take a chest x-ray instead of the blood-work. Has anyone else had problems with their dog getting blood drawn? Also, the vet assured me that an x-ray would show them everything that the blood work would but I find that hard to believe…I mean can you tell liver and kidney function from an x-ray? Any input would help…I’m just nervous about this as the actual heartworm treatment is harsh. Thanks.

I adopted a 3yo pit bull last week knowing full and well he was heartworm positive. I took him to the vet today and we were discussing treatment options. He said my dogs case is very mild and he could do perfectly fine on either treatment of monthly heartguard or the injections. I want to do what’s best for my dog no matter what it costs but I’m totally confused on what would best for him. I’m not comfortable with only doing heartguard once a month and would rather have the treatment just to get rid of the worms. In your opinion what is the best treatment for early stage heartworms?
